Coffee?

This actually sort of happened*.. without the meanness. We could NOT tell this person's gender. At a Starbucks.

Oh yeah, Um, non chibi.. because I felt like it.

*I did NOT ask the person what gender they were, I just met a barista at a Starbucks who I couldn't tell whether they were a man or woman. That's why I say "without the meanness"

I think I've met that Barista...more than once.

What difference does it make what gender the barista is? Unless you want to ask them out and the gender makes a difference, why ask? I understand how powerful curiosity can be, but it's kind of like not asking someone with a big stomach when their baby is due. Dave Barry said "Never assume a woman is pregnant unless a baby is coming out of her at exactly that moment!"

I'd make the corollary "Never ask a person what gender they are unless you want to date them and the gender makes a difference." Seriously, I have friends I always call by name because I don't know whether they want to be he or she in pronouns.

Srsly?!?

We all need to stop being so bloody selfish, and stop PCing the world to death before we end up living in the would of Equilibrium.

Just sayin'.

There *is* no difference. That's the joke of the comic. Kolan is the kind of person to get curious and not care about the consequences of what he does or says in order to find out. He may have even done it to make the person upset on purpose (You think I know why my chars do what they do? lol). And as to my own experience, I don't run into people like that very often, and I was just making an observation. *I* didn't ask them, I got my coffee and went on my way. *I* know it doesn't really matter what gender they are, it was just a bit surprising to interact with them. I would never bring up a question like that, and I don't know many people who would.. hence the comic.
